📜 Sthala Puranam: The Trinity of Postures and Narasimha’s Grace
The Three Forms of Vishnu
A highly unique feature of Thiru Naagai is the presence of the Lord in three main postures within the temple:
- Moolavar (Neelamega Perumal): Standing Posture (Nindra Kolam).
- Govindaraja Perumal: Sitting Posture (Veetrirundha Kolam).
- Ranganatha Perumal: Sleeping Posture (Kidantha Kolam).
The complex is also enriched with separate shrines for various forms, including Pachivannar, Pavalavannar, Varadharajar, Ramar, Srinivasar, Vaikundanathar, Sri Aandal, Aanchaneyar, and Garudan.
The Blessing of Narasimha
Inside the Ranganatha Sannadhi, there is a remarkable bronze idol of Lord Narasimha with eight hands (Ashtabhuja Narasimha). This form vividly portrays the simultaneous duality of protection and destruction:
• One hand safely secures Prahaladha (representing good and devotion).
• Another hand is used to bless Prahaladha by touching his head.
• The remaining hands are engaged in slaying Hiranya (representing evil).
The Puranam highlights that Narasimha came here after granting darshan to the young devotee Dhuruva, who performed severe penance. This form holds deep significance, showing the Lord protecting the good (Prahaladha/Dhuruva) and destroying the evil (Hiranya) in the same divine moment.
