📜 Sthala Puranam: The Blessings of Nandi and King Sibhi
Nandipura Vinnagaram (Nandi’s Abode)
The name Nandipura Vinnagaram is derived from Nandi, Lord Shiva’s divine carrier.
• Nandi, the supreme example of pure devotion and simplicity, performed intense Tapas (penance) at this site, seeking the blessings of Lord Vishnu.
• This act demonstrated that only pure and simple devotion—without the need for external appeal or wealth—is required to reach the Divine.
• Lord Narayana, who guided Nandi here, is thus called “Nadhanadhan” (The Guide of Guides/Teachers) or “Nandhan” (Teacher/Guide).
The Sacrifice of King Sibhi
The temple is also famous for the story of King Sibhi, a legendary figure known for his exceptional charity and justice.
• In a divine test, Lord Indra transformed into a hunter, and Lord Agni transformed into a pigeon.
• The pigeon sought refuge under King Sibhi. To protect the bird, Sibhi agreed to offer the hunter an equivalent weight of his own flesh in exchange for the pigeon’s life.
• The King sat on one side of the balance (tula) while the pigeon sat on the other. Impressed by his selfless sacrifice, Lord Narayana appeared and granted King Sibhi eternity.
• Unique Darshan: To witness this beautiful scene of sacrifice and justice, the Moolavar (Lord Jaganathan) faces the West direction.
