📜 Sthala Puranam: The Supreme Man and The Milky Ocean
Purushothaman: The Supreme Being
• Periyavachan Pillai’s Praise: The great Acharya Periyavachan Pillai lauded the Moolavar as “Purushothaman” (The Supreme Man). He categorized humans into three types—Adhaman (selfish), Madhiman (caring for self and others), and Utthaman (self-sacrificing for others)—and declared that the Lord here is above all three types, perfectly embodying supreme benevolence.
• The Promise: It is a strong belief that the Lord here fulfills the desires of devotees who complete the spiritual discipline of chanting the “Vishnu Sahasra Namam” for 48 consecutive days with fasting, concluding with a special pooja.
• Thirumangai Alvar’s Vision: The Lord granted Thirumangai Alvar darshan as Sree Raman (Lord Rama), and the Alvar accordingly performed Mangalasasanam praising Him in the form of Rama.
Thiruparkadal Theertham: The Arrival of the Milky Ocean
• Vyakrapathar’s Child: The sage Vyakrapathar (who had the legs of a tiger) and his child, Ubamanyu, resided here.
• The Divine Feed: While the sage was away, Ubamanyu cried out of hunger for milk. Goddess Lakshmi Devi requested the Lord to feed the child. Instead of bringing a small amount of milk, the Almighty brought the entire Milky Ocean (Thiruparkadal) itself to Thiruvanpurusothaman to feed the child Ubamanyu.
• The Theertham: Hence, the temple tank is worshipped as Thiruparkadal Theertham. The Lord also granted Prathyaksham to Vyakrapathar.
