Sthala Puranam: Rest After Battle and Perpetual Vigilance
Senganmal: The Red-Eyed Lord
• The Post-War Pose: The Sthala Puranam states that after the intense battle to destroy the demon Hiranyakshan and retrieve the world (in the Varaha Avatar), the Lord came to this spot to take rest.
• The Red Eyes: Since He had just returned from a fierce war, His eyes were reddened, earning Him the name Senganmal (Senkan means Red Eyes, Mal means Perumal).
• Anandha Sayanam with Four Hands: He reclines in the Anandha Sayana Posture on the serpent Adhiseshan, but uniquely, He is seen with Four Hands, reflecting His readiness and power even in repose.
Seshapuram and the Promise
• Goddess Lakshmi and Adhiseshan: When the Lord left to fight Hiranyakshan, Goddess Lakshmi and Adhiseshan were distressed. He instructed them to wait and perform penance at Palasavanam (this location).
• The Promised Darshan: As promised, after the victory, the Lord came here and granted them darshan, thus making it a place of reunion and rest.
