📜 Sthala Puranam: The Dance of Bliss and the Nectar of Fate
Kudamadukoothan: The Pot Dancer
• The Name: The Moolavar is known as Kudamadukoothan. Kudam means pot, Adum means dancing, and Koothan means dancer.
• The Posture: The Lord is seen in a rare Sitting Posture with one Leg placed on a butter pot, signifying His famous childhood activities as Lord Krishna (Gopalan), often associated with the Kuda Koothu (pot dance). This posture represents the Lord’s capacity to shower happiness and protect His devotees.
The Boon of Utthanga Maharishi
• Mahabharata Meeting: After the Mahabharata War, Lord Krishna met Utthanga Maharishi in the forest. The sage, unaware of the war’s outcome, became furious when Krishna explained the truth.
• Viswaroopa and Boon: Lord Krishna granted the sage His Viswaroopa Darshan (cosmic form) to calm him. Utthanga then asked for a boon that he should receive water whenever he was thirsty, as water was scarce there.
• The Nectar Test: When Utthanga called upon Krishna later, Lord Indra appeared with a pot of water/nectar, but disguised as an untouchable accompanied by dogs. The sage, judging by appearance, refused the water.
• The Lesson: Lord Krishna revealed that it was Indra and the pot contained nectar (Amrudha). Krishna explained that Fate dictates that humans are not eligible for nectar, proving that fate is the ultimate winner. Since a few drops of this nectar fell here when Indra appeared, the tank is named Amrudha Theertham and the Thaayar is Amrudhakadavalli.
