👑 The Unique Darshan: Adiseshan as Hood
The most extraordinary feature of Srivaikundam is the Moolavar’s appearance:
• Traditional Role Reversed: Typically, Adiseshan (the Serpent Lord) serves as the Lord’s bed (Sayanam) when He is reclining.
• Srivaikundam’s Uniqueness: Only here can devotees worship the Almighty in a Grand Standing Posture while Adiseshan serves as His protective Hood—a form believed to represent the Lord’s complete sovereignty even outside of Vaikundam (His celestial abode).
• Origin: The temple’s name is derived from the fact that the Almighty gave His Prathyaksham (direct vision) as Vaikundanathan to Lord Brahma Devar, marking this place as holy as Vaikundam itself. Lord Brahma leads the annual Brahmotsavam in the month of Chithirai (April-May).
☀️ The Surya Kshetram Phenomenon
Srivaikundam is the only Divyadesam where Surya Bhagwan (The Sun God) worships the Almighty with his rays every year:
• Solar Worship: The rays of the sun fall directly upon the Moolavar, Sri Vaikundanathan, on two specific days annually:
o The 6th day of the Tamil month Chithirai (April-May).
o The 6th day of the Tamil month Aipasi (October-November).
• Significance: This rare, naturally occurring event signifies the Sun God’s devotion to the Lord, affirming its status as the Surya Kshetram (remedial site for the Sun).
🥷 The Legend of Kallapiran (The Thief Lord)
The Utsava Perumal is known as Kallapiran (Kallan means thief, Piran means Lord), based on a remarkable story of a devotee:
• The Devoted Thief: A notorious local thief named Kaaladooshan had a peculiar devotion: he would worship Vaikundanathan before his nightly tasks and share half of his earnings with the Lord daily.
• Divine Intervention: When Kaaladooshan was caught by the King’s men for stealing palace ornaments, he meditated deeply on Vaikundanathan.
• The Lord’s Act: The Almighty completely occupied the thief’s mind and heart. When the King questioned Kaaladooshan, the thief began explaining profound philosophical concepts (Aathma Gnana). Though the voice was Kaaladooshan’s, the knowledge was Vaikundanathan’s.
• The Revelation: Realizing his mistake and the Lord’s grace, the King received a direct vision of the Lord and consequently distributed his wealth to his people. Having momentarily disguised Himself as a protector of the thief, the Lord earned the affectionate name Kallapiran.
🚪 Vaikunda Ekadasi
As a temple named after Vaikundam, the Vaikunda Vasal (Gate of Heaven) is specifically opened only on the auspicious day of Vaikunda Ekadasi for devotees to pass through and attain merit.
The Srivaikundam Divyadesam is an essential pilgrimage for those seeking blessings associated with the Sun God, protection from Adiseshan, and the ultimate grace of the Lord in His most sovereign and unique standing form.
