• Jadayu’s Sacrifice: During the abduction of Sita by Ravana, the eagle-king Jadayu intercepted Ravana’s chariot, fighting fiercely to save the Goddess. Jadayu’s wings were cut by Ravana, causing him to fall to earth, mortally wounded.
• Rama’s Grief and Rites: When Rama and Lakshmana found Jadayu, the dying eagle informed them of Ravana’s identity and direction before attaining moksha (liberation). Lord Rama, separated from his own father, treated Jadayu as his equivalent to a father and personally performed all the final ceremonies (pitru karmas).
• Vijayaraghava Perumal’s Seva: The Moolavar is seen in the posture assumed during this solemn act, holding Jadayu in His hands. The two Consorts (Naachiyaars) are uniquely placed on opposite sides.
