• Origin of the Name: “Vel” means wish (with pure affection or love) and “Irukkai” means staying/residence. The temple is called Thiru Velukkai because Lord Narasimhar voluntarily and lovingly wished to stay there (Kama + Aasika) to protect and help his devotees.
• Yoga Narasimhar: The Moolavar, Sri Narasimhar, sits in a protective Irundha Nilai (seated posture), specifically a Yoga Position, facing the West, continually protecting his bhakthas (devotees) from asuraas (evil forces).
