II. 📜 Sthala Puranam and Significance
- The Lord of Seven Hills (Seshachalam)
• Seven Peaks: Tirumala is composed of seven peaks, believed to represent the seven hoods of Adisesha, the serpent upon whom Lord Vishnu reclines. These peaks are Seshadri, Neeladri, Garudadri, Anjanadri, Vrishabhadri, Narayanadri, and Venkatadri (where the temple is located).
• Kaliyuga Vaikuntha: The Lord is believed to have appeared on earth specifically to save mankind from the trials and tribulations of the Kali Yuga, making Tirumala equivalent to His celestial abode, Vaikuntha, on earth. - The Varaha Swamy Tradition
The temple’s unique devotional tradition mandates the worship of Lord Bhu Varaha Swamy first:
• The Land Grant: As per legend, Lord Srinivasa requested a gift of land from Lord Bhu Varahaswami (the boar incarnation of Vishnu, who first made Tirumala his abode) to reside on the hill.
• The Agreement: In return for the land, Lord Srinivasa promised that Varahaswami would be paid the first Darshan, worship, and offerings by all devotees visiting the temple. This tradition is rigorously followed to this day. - The Ananda Nilayam and Its Wealth
• The Sanctum: The central Garbhagriha (Sanctum Sanctorum) housing the Moolavar is known as the Ananda Nilayam (Abode of Bliss).
• Devotion and Offerings: Tirumala is one of the world’s most visited and wealthiest temples, receiving vast offerings (Hundis) from millions of devotees annually, reflecting the immense trust and devotion placed in Lord Venkateswara. - Glorified by the Azhwars
Tirumala is revered as the 75th Divya Desam and is praised by the Azhwars in the Naalayira Divya Prabandham, cementing its status as an eternal sacred shrine of Vishnu.
Tirumala stands as the undisputed jewel of South Indian pilgrimage, representing the manifest presence of the Lord who showers blessings upon devotees seeking refuge in the age of Kali.
