📜 Sthala Puranam: The Lord of Celestial Abode Made Accessible
The Descent of Paramapathanathan
• Pacifying the Rudras: The Lord specifically descended here from Thiru Paramapadham to pacify the 11 angered Rudras (forms of Lord Shiva), who appeared after Shiva’s fierce Tandavam. Since the Lord came directly from His eternal abode, He appears here as Paramapathanathan Himself.
The Quest for Vaikundham Darshan
• King and Sage: The temple’s legend highlights the sincere desire of devotees to attain the Lord’s form in Vaikundham.
o King Sedhakethu and Queen Dhamayandhi performed severe penance but were unable to see Paramapathanathan directly.
o They were advised by Naradha Muni to pray at Iravadheeswarar Temple (Darasuram), where Lord Shiva was also waiting for the same darshan.
o Later, Sage Utthanga Maharishi joined them.
• The Promise: The Lord finally granted all four—the King, the Queen, Lord Shiva, and Sage Utthanga—darshan as Paramapathanathan. Lord Shiva then requested the Almighty to remain here and bless future devotees in the same unique form.
• Attaining Moksham: It is believed that King Uparisaravasu (who also received Prathyaksham) and Utthanga Maharishi performed penance here and attained Moksham.
The Uniqueness of the Darshan
• Material Vaikundham: This is the sacred site where human beings can worship the Lord in His celestial seated posture before departing this material world.
